Sometimes the name you were born with is a curse. 

Rocky Forever the bat got teased about his name many times in the nursery. He acted like it didn’t bother him but it did. 

When it was time for him to leave the younger bats and fly with the adults to eat he was thrilled. The moon and the stars gave him comfort.

Then late one night when his stomach was full he came upon a wild strange looking woman dancing by a campfire. She had bright pink hair and blue skin. An elven cloak hung off of her back and swirled around her as she danced. Fairy shoes jingled to the rhythm of music. The night sounds of the Emerald Forest didn’t distract him as he stared. 

Several hours later when a glimmer of light on the horizon appeared he flew home. with his head bobbing and a song stuck in his head.

The next night he darted through the sky as fast as he could catching moths, mosquitoes, and lightning bugs. When full he flew towards the tree where he had hid the night before. 

He was enjoying the music when he heard her call, “Hey what’s your name, the bat who watches in silence?” 

His fur felt hot and he closed his eyes.

“You know I can still see you even if you close your eyes? I am glad you like my music. What is your name?”

“Rocky Forever,” he squeaked out as he lowered his head slightly.

"Well Rocky Forever, I think you should come down here and be my friend,” she laughed and motioned for him to join the fun. 

Rocky didn’t reply and then flew away.

The next night he watched from a different tree. When the dancing started he heard her call, “Hey my new friend Rocky you should join me. We can sing and laugh together.”

Rocky waited a few minutes but then flew down and circled the campfire flapping his wings to the music. 

Pink hair swinging to the music, the wild woman said, “My name is Lucinda and I think you are my good luck charm.” 

Rocky smiled and the two of them sang and danced the rest of the night. When morning came Rocky left and Lucinda went to sleep. 

Months went by as the two of them enjoyed life and their friendship grew. Until one night during a full moon the two of them were dancing and singing by the campfire when Lucinda tripped and yelled, "Rocky help!" 

The flames engulfed her. Rocky flew over to try to save her but the fire wasn’t any campfire. Lucinda had summoned the secret flames. They both floated above the coals in the fire until their bodies morphed into souls. Lucinda turned into Shade Spectre of the Spike and Rocky turned into a ghost bat.

Today the two of them roam through the Emerald Forest where Lucinda enjoys picking on anyone who dares to travels there.
